Biography

Philip Frost was born in England.

In 1678 Philip had a joint grant with Arthur Beale. He took the Oath of Allegiance in 1680, was on the jury in 1687, grand jury in 1688-90.[1]

Martha is listed as a child of Joseph Merry of Hampton, however, I have been unable to find any evidence linking them other than for the same surname.

“I Phillip ffrost with the free Consent & approbation of Mathew my wife, of the Town of Yorke… Planter, do upon good Considerations yrunto us moveing dispose of & bind out my wifes sonn Jos: Raynkine, unto ye Reverd Shuball Dumer Pastor of the Church of Yorke… to serve him & his wife Mrs Lydea Dumer, as an Apprenice for ye full Tearme of Twelve years from the Date hereof & do further Covenant & agree in ye behalf of ye sd Ladd, yt thee shall faithfully do & Prforme the place & trust of a servant, unto his Maister Mr Dumer, & Mis Dumer… In all such lawfull Imployments as his Maister or Mistress shall set him about, dureing ye whole tyme of his service from wch hee shall not absent him selfe day or night with out yr Consent. Hee shall not Imbessell his Maisters tyme or goods, nor give Consent to those yt shall but shall in al things truly & faithfully behave him selfe dureing ye tyme of his apprentishipp, as becometh an honest servant… the sd Mr Shuball Dumer… will provide him dureing yt twelve years tyme, Meate, drinke, lodging & apparall, washing &c : & wt is sufficient for a servant to have of his Capacity & do his best Indeavour to teach him or cause him, to bee taught to write &c : read, Legably & audibly according to his capacity & at the expiration of his tyme to double suite him in apparel according to ye Law & Costome of ye Country… the 4th day of March 1679/80…

“I Arther Bragdon of Yorke... Planter & Lydea my wife… in Consideration of the Just sume of sixteene pounds…payd… by… Phillip ffrost now rescident at York… do… sell… twenty Acres… in the Town of Yorke liing between the Lotts formerly of Andrew Raynkine now in the possession of Phillip ffrost & of the aforesd Arthrer Bragdon (onely the Landing place accepted) which Arther Bragdon & his wife are to have a way unto dureing their natural lifes… along by the River…. Till they come to Bass Cove river…. This 4th day of May 1680…
