Thank You Marc for your comments. About Abbie Hoffman I'm pretty sure I shared an idyllic couple of weeks with him and his buds along with my lifelong friends in Onset Ma circa 1954.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. This is a courtesy email to share the After Adopting Orphans FAQ which explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.

If you will be working with any profiles needing GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Debi

Hi Marc!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles!

It’s very important to read and understand https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many WikiTree members, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Best wishes for your research

Maureen ~ WikiTree Greeter

Thanks Maureen. So far I've just added one birthyear to one of my ancestors with an explanation of what's out there about it. I've read up on how to start a new profile with the next ancestor out, and ask it as a query. I'll do that as soon as I know more. Cheers, marco frucht.

Hi Marc, please don't use all caps in the names of the profiles you create. The name, eg, should be Snow, not SNOW.
posted by Brad Foley
Sure thing. I didn't know. Many other Genealogy sites want the allcaps for family names. I'll have to get used to that. So I tried changing the Snow one, but the error message said SNOW-9109 is a redirected user, which cannot be changed. So I'll have to wait and see if it gets fixed by others I guess.

You're the only person who can edit the last name at birth for profiles you manage. You need to go to the edit page for a profile, go to "Last name at birth" and click "edit".

You will change the last name to the regular capitalisation. Give a reason like "fixing all caps"

Lemme know if you have any problems!

Welcome!

I just wanted to say "hi" and to let you know that I'm available to answer questions about WikiTree.

Maureen ~ WikiTree Greeter

Thank you so much! So far the only hitch I've noticed is I can't list both adoptive and biological parents. So far I'm building on the biological tree and adopting any of the orphaned profiles for my mom and dad's adoptive side hoping to keep them gathered or indexed in one sensible looking place. Someday I'd love to be able to have all four parents visible next to each other in some kind of non-linear way. For example both my moms have had breakfast together twice now, and caught up on each other's lives. They've become friends, but don't they now have some kind of a kinship relationship forever? Yay. Anyhew, this seems like a great site otherwise! Cheers, marco

Hi Marc

It's so interesting to hear about your 2 sets of parents.

Have you seen this page: Adoptees: How to Set Up Your Profile. It's a WikiTree help page specifically designed for new members who indicate they are adoptees. It is also helpful for non-adopted members who have living adoptees in their family tree. The page includes links to more resources, like our Adoption Angels Project, basic search techniques, information on DNA, etc.

It could be useful for you.

Best Wishes

Maureen

ooh, thanks. I saw the part about having relatives who were adopted but not anything for being adopted like me. I'll read up.
