Biography

Louis Fruge was born to Nicholas Fruge and Marianne Olivier sometime before 14 August 1796, the date that he received the baptismal ceremony at St Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.[1] It should be noted that the published "The Fruge's of Fakaitaic" has the wrong parents listed for him[2] as shown by the baptism and marriage records.

He married Marie Louise Teal on 30 June 1818 at the same church where he had received the baptismal ceremony.[3]

The family appears on both the 1850[4] and 1860[5] Censuses in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Sometimes the ages of the children seem quite off, but the names with a few exceptions match the family well and the ages of the parents are consistent. Louis and his wife haven't been found on the 1870 census, suggesting they may have passed away by then.
