FRY - JACKA - July 15th by the Rev. R. S. Poole at St. Thomas's Motueka; Mr. R. Fry, second son of Mr. H. Fry, farmer; to Henrietta, eldest daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Jacka of Riwaka.[2]
The death has occurred at Riwaka of Mr. Richard Fry, at the age of 89 years. His parents were among the first settlers to take up land in the Riwaka area. For many years he had the contract to take mails by bridle track over the Takaka Hills, and later when a cart road was constructed he used a buggy and pair, and took passengers. He was at one time a member of the Riwaka School Committee and of tho Riwaka Road Board. He was also a member of the Motueka Borough Council and of the Harbour Board, and was one of the foundation members of the Horticultural Society. He married in 1867 and leaves a family of six sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs. Percy, Thomas, Horace, and David Fry (Riwaka), Stanley Fry. (Motueka), and Albert Fry (Australia), and the daughters, Mrs. Joseph Duncan (Riwaka), and Mesdames McKenzie and Hickey (Australia), and Miss May Fry (Riwaka). Mrs. Fry died five years ago.[4]
