Biography

Sarah J. Fry was born in New York about 1820. Her parents and siblings are unknown.

She married James A. Young on 7 October 1842 in the United Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, Perth, Fulton county, New York.^[1]

In the 1850 census Sarah (age 30) was in Perth, Fulton, New York, United States.^[2]

In the 1855 census Sarah (age 35) was a wife in E.D. 2, Johnstown, Fulton, New York, United States.^[3]

In the 1860 census Sarah (age 40) was in Town of Johnstown, Fulton, New York, United States.^[4]

Her daughter, Catherine, was married to Wesley C. Smith, about 1866 in New York. She had five children; Nettie, Ezra, Derric, Bert and Walter. She died in 1878.

Her son, George, was married to Mary Etta Weldon on 6 March 1869 at Gloversville, Fulton, New York. They had four children in New York, then moved to Minnesota about 1877 and had six more children.

Her son, William, was married to Carolina Marcy Hines on 28 November 1883 at Broadalbin, Fulton, New York.

Her husband, James A Young, died in Gloverstown on 27 December 1898. His burial was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

In Oct 1899, it was announced that Sarah had been granted an original widow’s pension of $8.00 a month.

Sarah died on 11 October 1905 in Gloversville, New York, United States.^[10] She was 85 years old and was found dead in her home. It was ruled that death was due to organic heart trouble.

Sarah was mentioned on a memorial in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, Fulton County, New York, United States with a death date of 1905.^[11] She was survived by two sons (George and William) and two daughters (Harriet and ??).
