Biography

John Fry of Washington County, Maryland wrote his will on 23 October 1793 leaving bequests to his wife (no first name) and his daughters Mary, Catherina, Christina, Susannah, and Elizabeth. He named as executor his "son-in-law Casper Snyder".[1] Thus, while he did not specify married names for his daughters, some of them were in fact married. The will was registered for probate on 29 November 1794, indicating that he had recently passed away. A verbatim transcript is as follows ...

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Einar, I've had time to look more thoroughly at the profiles for your John Fry and his daughter Nancy, as well as the will. The will not only names just Mary, Catherina, Christina, Susannah, and Elizabeth as daughters. It also does NOT name any sons, Abraham or otherwise. Since Nancy lived many years after the death of my John Fry but was not named in his will, I have to conclude she was not his daughter. I would be happy for the two Johns to be merged but believe that Nancy should be removed as a child. Instead of waiting to hear from you at my email address, I have uploaded a copy of John's will to his profile.

Hi Einar. I'll look at all this more closely either tonight or tomorrow. I have a copy of John Fry's will, and the only daughters he names in it (spelled as written in the will) are Mary, Catherina, Christina, Susana or Susannah, and Elizabeth. It's possible there were other daughters who died childless before the will was written. In these older wills, a deceased child typically was named only if the child left children of their own. I will say this about the LDS files. I began using their old website in the 1990s, and one entire group of files was compiled not directly from original records but from information contributed by members and other users. As time goes by, you'll see that a lot of family trees and genealogy files, including at Ancestry.com, assert things that the author/compiler only surmised; in other words, not found directly in actual documents. My email address is [email address removed] If you'd like to email me, I'll reply and send you a copy of John Fry's will.

Regards, Loretta

Hello: I am a rookie ad maybe made a rookie error. Mine is the "Rejected match" seen below and the more I consider this the less clear I seem to get. You supply a list of John's daughters and my John also had a lot of daughters, three of whom, Mary, Susannah and Elizasbeth have the same names but I also have Nancy, Barbara, Sarah, and Margaret, while you have a few others. My birth and death dates are close to your but not the same, my source is in the LDS files. So what to do? Right now there are two John Fryes, should they be merged? Thanks for your consideration, Einar
