Biography

Anna was born in 1830. She was the daughter of Franz Fuchs and Christine Schneider. She passed away in 1909.

Obituary.

MRS. ANNIE MARY THURN. aged 79.

On Saturday night last, Mrs. Thurn, senr. of Elderslie, Camden, a well known and deeply respected resident, passed away. Her late husband died on 14th October, 1897. Needless to say, the deceased lady was much beloved by everyone, and had a kind and affectionate disposition.

She was born in Weisbarden, Germany, and came to the shores of Australia over 60 years ago, and with her late husband made Elderslie their home, where their sons were taught by them the art of vine-growing and wine making. With expert knowledge Elderslie has been made one of the first vine growing centres of Australasia. The suitability of the soil proved at once to the late Mr. Thurn its vast commercial possibilities. Up to the hour of the deceased lady's death the vines and orchards were in perfect condition. Indomitable pluck and perseverance was shown by the late Mr. Thurn in con verting a mere wilderness into a high state of cultivation.

The late Mrs. Thurn passed away peacefully after trying her best to make matters more comfortable for her followers. The sons remaining are Messrs. Philip, Christian, Anton, and Valtin. The daughters, Misses Margaret, Annie, Elizabeth, Harriet and Mrs. Mary Fittler, of Armidale. Mrs. Thurn leaves 17 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. The funeral took place on Monday at the R. C. Cemetery, Camden, attended by a large of number old friends, testifying to the sterling worth of one whose home will sadly miss. The Rev. Father Sheridan performed the solemn rites of her church. Mr. R. G. Hindes satisfactorily conducted the funeral arrangements.[1]
