Biography

There is no documentation that links Harlan to Henry Brison and Rachel as his parents, but his children names and those of his younger stepsiblings do cross over:

  • Son Bryson Breckenridge -> stepbrother James Harlan Breckenridge (son of his father's second wife)
  • Daughter Millie Mae -> stepsister Millie Mae (daughter of his father's possible third wife)

Harlan first married Minnie Lou Hounshell on 3 Feb 1900 in Jackson, Breathitt, Kentucky. [1] Minnie died the following year. He then married her widowed sister Armina Elizabeth Clemons (nee Hounshell) on 20 Aug 1906 in Breathitt County, Kentucky. [2] Armina died the following year.

He married his third wife, Martha Helen Hounshell (nee Hagins), on 9 Jan 1908 in Breathitt County, Kentucky. [3] She was a widow with two children (Nettie and Lulu Sewell). She was also Minnia and Armina Hounshell's stepmother. Martha and Harland had eight children (Bryson Breckenridge, Millie Mae, Woodrow Wilson, Dovie Byrdie, William Kenton, James, Carl Eugene, and Harlan Hagins). Helen died on July 21, 1929.

Later in 1929, Harlan married his fourth wife, Armina Clemons Napier. She was a widow, previously married to Russell Napier with whom she had two children (Violet and Edna).

Sometime between 1930 and 1940, Harlan and Armina separated.

In 1940, Harlan married his fifth wife, Louvina Walters. She was also a widow.
