Charles Wesley Fugate, age 92, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was born to Charles and Ethel Fugate in McClain County on August 20, 1922
Charles was a machine operator at Corning Glass for 30 years. He had a love of the land and always had land and cattle. He loved to travel and had the opportunity of an extended European tour. He was an excellent swimmer and spent many weekends swimming, water skiing and boating on the Fort Gibson and Tennkiller lakes with his family. When Charles was 18 years old, he met 15 year old Opal Salmon. They married 6 months later and were married 73 years on January 31, 2015. They worked together and did everything together during their 73 years. Except when one was in the hospital, they never spent a night apart. Having lost his parents at an early age, her family became his family.
Charles is survived by his wife, Opal Fugate; daughters, Patti Sweet and husband Tom of Edmond, and Linda Pitts and husband Curtis of Jenks; grandchildren, Kerri Ward and husband Mike of Edmond, Roger Gosnell of Edmond, Carmen Walters of Guthrie, and Crissa Gantz and husband Randy of Supulpa; great-grandchildren, Chris Boone and wife Katrina of Jenks, Ashleigh Boone of Stillwater, Jessica Stacey and husband D.J. of Tulsa, Kaylie Pitts of Jenks, and Bryce Gantz of Sapulpa; great-great grandchildren, Kara Boone, Christian Boone, Brody Stacey and John Stacey, all of Jenks; nephew, James Fugate; nieces, Shirley Fugate, Louise Fugate, Beth Fugate, Stephany Fugate, Debbie Fugate, Donna Fugate and Jan Fugate; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Charles Wesley Fugate will be Friday, March 13, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Southeast Baptist Church with Associate Pastor Gene Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Randy Gantz, Roger Gosnell, Mike Ward, Curtis Salmon, Richard Salmon, David Salmon, Pat Salmon and Chris Boone serving as pallbearers.
