Ambrose was born in 1867[1] in March, Cambridgeshire, England. He was the son of William Fuller and Emma Ogden; Ambrose's mother had died before 1871 when he lived in Mildenhall, Suffolk, with his father and stepmother.[2] The family lived in Chelmsford, Essex, in 1881.[3]
At the time of the 1891 census Ambrose worked as a servant at the Bell Hotel in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.[4]
He married Lottie Baker in 1896.[5] The family lived in Normanton, Derbyshire, in 1901 when Ambrose was a hotel-keeper.[6] In 1911 the family lived in Derby, Derbyshire. Ambrose managed the Royal Hotel.[7]
In 1924 Ambrose married Gladys M Dould in London.[8] The family lived in Hilton, Derbyshire, in 1939 when Ambrose and Gladys had both retired.[9]
