Biography

Nathaniel was baptized on 25 December 1726 at Ipswich in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of Nathaniel Fuller and Mary Pooter.[1]

He married Sarah Leatherland on 28 November 1759 at Ipswich.[2] They had two known children:[1]

  • Nathaniel bap. 4 September 1760
  • Sarah bap. 6 March 1763

Sarah (Leatherland) Fuller seemingly died sometime in the next couple of years.

Nathaniel married second Mary Holland after intentions published 5 March 1768 at Ipswich.[2] Children:[1]

  • Susannah bap. 27 November 1768
  • James bap. 16 September 1770
  • William bap. 12 February 1775
  • Mary b. 9 October 1776

Nathaniel died around 1778. He is said to have been captain of the privateer "General Stark" and to have died of wounds suffered in an engagement. A bio of his son James states instead that he was taken prisoner by the British, and the ship on which he was being sent to England was lost at sea.[3]

On 5 February 1779, Dummer Jewett Esqr. was appointed guardian to Nathaniel Fuller Junr. of Ipswich, a minor aged above 18 years, son of Nathaniel Fuller of Ipswich, mariner.[4] An account of Nathaniel Jr.'s property made by Dummer shows interest in a ship as well as significant goods, such as sugar and rum.[5]
