Heinrich "Henry" Funk was born circa 1729, in Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania, in what is present day Montgomery county, PA. Note: Before the American Revolutionary War, most of eastern Pennsylvania was part of Philadelphia county. Montgomery County was created on September 10, 1784, from part of Philadelphia County, and named for General Richard Montgomery.
Private Heinrich Funk served with Northampton County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.
Henry enlisted as a private in Captain Peter Kookens company of the Northampton county Militia. [1] Henry is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A042629. DAR records indicate that he died after January 27, 1794, in Rockingham county, Virginia, and that his wife's name was Barbara Showalter. Application for membership in the Society have been made by the descendants of their children:

Henry was the son of a prominent Mennonite Bishop, of Franconia Town, Pennsylvania. According to Susan McNelley, Henry was expelled from the Mennonite community in Pennsylvania. [2] Henry and his family moved to Rockingham county, Virginia, where he and his wife, Barbara (Showalter) Funk died and were buried on their farm at Singer's Glen. [3]
