Biography

Wilson was born in 1845, baptised 5th Oct 1845 at Billingham, Durham UK. He was the son of John Furness and Averill Wilson. He passed away in 1873.

In the 1851 census,aged 5 he was living in Ramseys Buildings, Stranton, Stockton, Durham UK with his father and mother and 5 siblings, Thomas, John, Mary J, Stephen and Alfred.

In 1871, aged 24, he lived in Lynn St, Stranton with his parents and 3 younger siblings, Alfred, Christopher and Eliza A, there was also John's neice Louisa W Gibbon, aged 9 and Mary Thomas aged 15 a servant.

Wilson married Mary Sadler in 1876 in Hartlepool, Durham UK

In 1881, aged 34 he was a Hotel Keeper living at Sadlers Hotel, Swarthmore Terrace, Thornaby with South Stockton, Middlesborough, Yorkshire. His wife Mary,aged 24 was also named as a hotel keeper. They had 2 children Poppy aged 5 and Miriam aged 2. They also had 2 nurses Ann Crosby a nurse/domestic servant aged 16 and Mary J Charlton aged 17. Also in the residence were the hotel staff, Swain Cartson, aged 23 a barman born in Sweden, Andus Hanson, aged 21, a billiard marker from Sweden, Christopher Wilson aged 23, a groom from Yarm, Elizabeth Charlton aged 21, a barmaid from Consett, and Elizabeth Seth, aged 22 a cook from Durham.

In 1891, Wilson was a widower still living in the Sadlers Hotel. His daughters were not there with him. He had 4 servants, Nelly Prudhoe, 29, housekeeper, Selenia E Dowson, 26, a barmaid from Yorkshire, William Snowdon, 27, a barman from London, and Kate Toker, 21 a general servant.
