  • He is listed as the Ist to help show the difference between himself, his grandson the 2nd, and his nephew SR. and his great nephew JR.
  • Really unsure about whether he had a wife named Elizabeth
  • Can't prove relationship with 2 children listed here in the profile
  • Possible emigrant, found Onesimus in passenger list to N.C. in 1710. He was older than thought or another of the same name. Maybe an uncle?

Notes

Onesimus Futch [Parents] was born about 1717 in New Bern, NC. He died in Jan 1782 in Edgecombe Co, Nc. He married Mary Blunt in North Carolina.

Family Connect indicates that Onesimus married Mary about 1755. However, the first child attributed to them was born about 1737 so I have moved the date of marriage back to reflect this. It also lists his birth as Craven, Rowan Co, NC but I have decided to go with New Bern, NC at this time.
In Craven Co, NC in court minutes 1730-1746, Craven Co, NC "For security given, Onesimus Futch prays this court that he have his mark and brand recorded" dated December 19, 1738.
In 1755, he owned land in New Hanover Co, NC. However, there is no record of his having purchased land in Craven Co. It may be that he was the same Onesimus appearing in New Hanover Co tax list of 1755 and who's will is recorded in 1782 in the same county of North Carolina. His nephew of the same name, did own land in New Hanover Co and this Onesimus may have moved there to be close to his namesake. He died about 1781 in New Hanover Co, NC. His estate was probated in Jan 1782 in Edgecomb County, North Carolina. His will recorded January 1782 gives all he had to his wife Mary, sons Martin, James, Jacob, John and a grandson, Simon Malpass Jr., with his brother John Futch named to administer the will. Findings suggest that Onesimus is the son of Jacob Futch and brother to Martin Futch and John Futch, found listed in the 1800 North Carolina Census. His Will was proved by son John, who testified that the decedent "would have signed the same if he were able" and Mary Futch, decedent's widow, then qualified as Admrx., with will annexed, January 1782.

Mary Blunt [Parents] was born in 1720 in probably North Carolina. She died . She married Onesimus Futch in North Carolina. Parents, Jacob Blunt and Elizabeth Long

Mary had an estate probated in 1766 in Tyrrell CO, NC. Named in her father's Will. The Blunt family name was originally Blount from a William le Blund or le Blount who died about 1280 per the unpublished Blount Manuscript of Helen M. Prescott in her Genealogical Papers in the Southern Historical Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Investigation so far shows that a William Blunt of 1642, the son of William Blount is the first to change the spelling of the name to better match the preferred pronunciation of the name.

They had the following children:

M i Martin Futch was born about 1737. He died in Oct 1791.
M ii James Futch was born about 1740 in North Carolina. He died in 1787 in North Carolina.
M iii Jacob Blunt Futch was born in 1757. He died .
M iv John Futch was born about 1766. He died on 27 Oct 1828.
F v Futch died before 1782.
M vi Carter Futch was born about 1739 in North Carolina. He died in North Carolina.

Message Board Post:

To all Futch researchers, I offer this clarification on Onesimus Futch and Ann Duke from request by T Strickland. I think that a new review of my tree will help. I have reworked my information to clear errors. First the Onesimus born 1745 the only son of Martin Futch who married Ann Duke was not born in South Carolina and his marriage to Ann Duke I tool from the U.S. and International Marriage Records online. At the time of their marriage his uncle Onesimus was living in Orangeburg, South Carolina so I assume that they married in his uncles home and the returned to his farm in New Hanover. To keep them all straight here are the four men with that unusual name;

Onesimus Futch I, was born 1716 in New Bern, North Carolina and died 1782 in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Onesimus Futch Sr., was born 1745 in Craven County, North Carolina and died 1832 in Georgia after migrating there with a land grant. His father, Martin Futch was the older brother of Onesimus Futch I.

Onesimus Futch Jr., was born 1765 in Orangeburg, South Carolina at the uncles home and he died about 1836 in Georgia

Onesimus Futch II, was born 1794 in North Carolina and died 1828 in Alabama. He was the grandson of Onesimus Futch I, and the son of Jacob Blunt Futch.

Not only is it difficult to keep all the family lines properly connected but unless other look over our shoulders the errors we make will compound future research problems".

So I thank you for your question and I would have gotten back to you sooner if I could just learn to navigate this software better. Roy

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Onesimus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Onesimus:
