Biography
John Gabb was born in Gloucestershire, England.
John was the son of Thomas Gabb and his wife Deborah Millard. He was baptised on 2 March 1703/4 in Cam, Gloucestershire.[1]
He married Mary Webb on 20 June 1738 in Berkeley, Gloucestershire. The parish register records "John Gabb of Stinchcomb & Mary Webb of this p[ar]ish."[2] Their children were:
John, baptised 19 January 1738/9, Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire[3]
Betty, baptised 29 December 1740, Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire[4]
Thomas, baptised 21 March 1742/3, North Nibley, Gloucestershire[5]
His father's will, dated 6 December 1746, makes provision for John's three children, John, Elizabeth and Thomas.[6] It states:
"I desire my said Son William and Daughter Anne to maintain and breed up my Grandson Thomas Gabb Son of John Gabb my Son, and Give them ... the Sum of Ten pounds as a Satisfaction for the Trouble and Charge attending it to be paid on my said Grandson's attainment of his Age of Seven Years ... "
"And I also Give unto John and Elizabeth the other Children of my said Son John the Sum of Five Shillings a piece to be paid them respectively or laid out for their respective Benefits in Twelve Months next after my Decease ... "
This suggests John died before 1746. He is probably the John Gabb who was buried on 25 May 1744 in North Nibley, Gloucestershire.[7]
