Biography

This profile is part of the Eastern Sangamon County Townships One Place Study.

Melissa Jane Gabbert was born 31 December 1854 in Williamsville, Sangamon, Illinois, United States to John Gabbert and Elezabeth Dougherty (both born in Kentucky, USA). [1]

In the 1870 census Milissa (age 16) was living in Mount Pulaski, Logan, Illinois, United States with her parents, John (50) and Elizabeth (45) Gabbert, and her three siblings; Thomas (24), Martha E (19), and Charles (14).[2]

She married Frank Martin Dearborn, son of John Dearborn of England and Eliza Flint of Vermont, on 29 Aug 1872.[citation needed] The couple had at least three children:

  1. Minnie E., b. abt 1871; m. Claude Melvin Owens, 18 Jun 1892;[3] d. ?
  2. Ida M., b. 19 Jan 1879; m. Henry Earl Merritts, 29 Nov 1900;[4] d. 3 Aug 1929.[5]
  3. Walter J., b. 9 Apr 1881;[6] m. Helen Trent, 30 Apr 1921;[7] d. 13 Oct 1937.[8]

On 7 Jun 1880, John E. Constant, enumerator for Buffalo Hart Village, Buffalo Hart Township, Sangamon County, Illinois reports Frank M Dearborn in between Alex Cass and David A Farnam households. [9]

Malissia Dearborn 23 (1857, wife, married) b. Indiana; father born in Kentucky.
Minnie Dearborn 9 (1871, daughter, single) b. Illinois; father born in Wisconsin and mother born in Indiana.
Ida Dearborn 1 (1879, daughter, single) b. Illinois; father born in Wisconsin and mother born in Indiana.
John Gabbert 65 (1815, boarder, widower) he and both parents born in Kentucky.

Melissa, daughter of John Gabbert & Elezabeth Daugherity, died (age 77) on 7 October 1932 in Paris, Edgar, Illinois, United States.[1]
