Kerry Evening Post date February 22, 1843, Page 3:
LIMERICK FEBRUARY 22
We are truly concerned to announce the sudden death of John Gabbett, Esq., which melancholy event occurred yesterday morning at his seat, Shepperton, County Clare. There never existed perhaps a more attached and devoted husband and parent, a good landlord, a kind friend and most upright magistrate, and an honourable gentleman in all dealings. He served as Captain the County Limerick Regt. from which he entered into the 88th, and retired on half-pay after the battle of Waterloo.[3] Note that he actually retired nine months before the battle of Waterloo.
