Biography
Mary (Gabbett) Smithwick was born in Ireland.
Mary Gabbett was born in about 1807 (based on her age at death). She was the daughter of Reverend Robert Gabbett and Mary Studdert.
She married Peter Smithwick on 5 August 1830.
Marriage Notice
Freeman's Journal August 10, 1830:
- On Thursday at Castleton Church in the county of Tipperary, Peter Smithwick, of Rathhenny Cottage, in the King's County, Esq., son of the late Michael Smithwick, Esq., of Mount Catherine, county Limerick, to Mary, daughter of the Rev. Doctor Gabbett, Rector of Castletown, and Vicar General of the Diocese of Killaloe.[1]
They went on to have 11 children.
Her husband Peter died on 4 December 1893.
Mary Smithwick passed away less than a year later, on 9 October 1894 at Shanbally House, Ballymackey, County Tipperary and was buried at Ballymackey Church of Ireland Cemetery[2].
