Norman was born on the 18 Mar 1904 in Belfast, Ireland.
It appears that Norman was born to a first wife for his father Alexander GABBEY who then married a fellow widower, Florence BAIN, in 1910 to form a melded family.
He may have been known as "Alec" (his father too) - especially in the United States.
His half brother John HILL dies at age 12 in 1913.
In 1914 his father enlists in the British Army and serves as a rifleman with the Royal Irish Rifles (Royal Ulster Rifles ) in World War One. His father is awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal at the end of the war.
In 1918, his half brother Irwin dies at the age of 15.
Norman immigrated with his family to the USA in 1920. He travelled first with his father in April 1920 aboard the Kaiserin Augusta Victoria. His step mother followed with her three daughters (Agnes, Eleanor and Florence) via the Kaiserin Augusta Victoria, leaving Liverpool on September 25, 1920.
Norman appears to have joined the US marines during the 1920s. His father states this on his Declaration of Intention re: citizenship. There are numerous marine corps muster rolls for Norman GABBEY that show him serving on board ships and in the Carribean (Nicaragua and Haiti).
In the 1930 US Census, he is living with his parents in Manchester, Connecticut and working as a factory assembler.
Norman died on 12 Aug 1976.
