1857 - John Gabbitas was born on the 27th September, 1857 the son of James and Elizabeth Gabbitas.

1860 - He was baptised at Alfreton, Derbyshire, England on the 18th of November, 1860[1]

1861 - On the night of the 1861 census John was at home with his parents at Swanwick, Alfreton, Belper, Derbyshire, England[2]

His father's occupation was given as Chemist & Druggist, a trade in which John later followed in his footsteps.
