Biography

Jakob was born about 1636 in Königsbach, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate), Germany, according to the professional researcher, Johann Benedom of Schifferstadt, who compiled the "Ortsfamilienbuch Königsbach-Neustadt". It is also possible that he was born in Ruppertsberg, but no records have been found. He was the son of Georg Gabert and an unknown mother. He married Margaretha Funsch (also called Finck) 1661 in Königsbach and had 12 children with her, namely

1. Maria Barbara Gabert, 1663–1683

2. Maria Magdalena Gabert, 1665–1703

3, Johannes Thomas Gabert, 1667–1732

4, Anna Margaretha Gabert, 1670–Deceased

5. Johannes Stephan Gabert, 1672–Deceased

6. Johannes Matthias Gabert, 1674–Deceased

7. Agnes Gabert, 1676–1764

8. Jakob Gabert, 1679–1724

9. Anna Maria Gabert, 1681–1743

10. Maria Barbara Gabert, 1683–1760

11. Maria Elisabetha Gabert, 1686–1724

12. Sebastian Gabert, 1688–Deceased

Jakob died 1717 in Königsbach at the age of about 80 years.

Jakob was also called Johannes but in only one record of 26 on FamilySearch, so it is believed to be an error, as that name is not shown on the above family book.

The Königsbach of our Gabert family is currently a part of the city of Neustadt an der Weinstraße (the only place name for the town found on a current map), which lies about 55 miles (90 km) south of the Rheinland-Pfalz state capital of Mainz. In the lifetime of Jakob Gabert, Königsbach belonged to Kurpfalz, Heiliges Römisches Reich. From 1816 to 1946 the town was part of Bayern (Bavaria).
