Biography

The Edgerton Earth, Sept 13, 1970 - OBITUARY - Ronald Gabet Killed At Big Run Crossing - a 17 year old Edgerton High School senior, Ronald P. Gabet, was apperently killed instantaneously at 11:00 p.m. Sunday night when his car was broadsided by a Penn-Central train at the Big Run crossing a mile east of Butler and less than a quarter mile north of his home. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gabet, of RR 1, Butler. The train's engineer reported the youth stopped or virtually stopped his car after turning off of US 6 south toward his home, but then pulled right into the path of the train's engine apparently without seeing it. He was reportedly hurrying home with the car so his brother, Richard, could have it to go to work, and the brother watched the tragedy from a window in his home. The parents were reportedly on thier way home from a Michigan trip at the time and arrived there to learn of the accident at about 2:00 a.m. Monday. The Youth was a member of the EHS Future Farmer's of America and of S. Mary's Catholic Church here. He lived most of his life at the Butler address, 1 1/2 miles over the state line. Survivors, in addition to his parents and the brother at home, include another brother, Michael of Edgerton, and three sisters, Mrs. Rose Dohner, Butler, and Mrs. Patricia Cheney and Mrs. Ellen Kelder, both of Ft. Wayne. Funeral services were held yesterday morning in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Fr. David D. Moore officiating. Burial followed in the St. Mary's portion of Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Krill Funeral Home.
