Thomas was born in 1811. He was the son of Thomas Gabriel and Sarah Wild. He was the grandson of Christopher Gabriel (Gabriel-308), a famous tool maker who made planes for woodworking. Sir Thomas was a timber importer and merchant at Gabriel's Wharf. He was Sheriff of London for 1859-60 and Lord Mayor of London for 1866-67. After serving as Lord Mayor, he was made the First Baronet of Edgecombe Hall, Surrey. He passed away in 1891 at age 79 and is buried in Norwood Cemetery.
