Clarice Arlene Schieck, 86, of Moorhead, MN formerly of Park Rapids, MN died on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN. Clarice A. Gabrielson was born on August 24, 1928 at home on the family farm near Grand Meadow, MN the daughter of Carl A. and Anna S. Gabrielson. She grew up and attended school in Grand Meadow, graduating in 1946. She enjoyed participating in Band. She moved to Austin, MN where she worked the soda fountain at the Peoples Drug Store. During a store remodeling project, she met construction worker Donald Schieck. They were united in marriage on Nov. 22, 1951 – Thanksgiving Day – in Grand Meadow, MN. They settled in Austin and Clarice became a busy homemaker and loving mother of four. In 1973 the Schieck family moved to Bloomington, MN, and then to Burnsville in 1983. Clarice worked for Hennepin Technical College as a paraprofessional with the Handicap, she retired in 1992. In 1994, after finishing their dream home on Portage Lake, she and Don moved to Park Rapids, MN. They enjoyed their retirement years, keeping busy as active members of Calvary Lutheran Church, St. Joseph’s Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Local Veterans Memorial, and a local Birthday Club. She and Don were instrumental in establishing two new Sons of Norway Chapters – Lakeville, MN and Park Rapids, MN where they were charter members of both. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader in Bloomington. She and Don enjoyed many summer days pontooning and fishing on Portage Lake. Clarice was also a gifted artist with needlework and crocheting. She will be remembered for her love of cooking and hospitality. Her cooking legacy also includes her holiday baking, especially her trademark peppakakor Swedish cookies. She and Don moved to Moorhead, MN in 2011 to be closer to her family. She is survived by her husband – Donald C. Schieck of Fargo, ND; four children – Richard (Mary) Schieck of Sunburg, MN; Ronald (Gloria) Schieck of Lakeville, MN; Jeanine (Ross) Kvittem of Burnesville, MN; Roberta(Greg) Lein of Moorhead, MN.four grandchildren two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters – Carl Gabrielson, Ethel Gabrielson, Hattie Noss, Herschel Gabrielson, Verne Gabrielson, and Ralph Gordon Gabrielson. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4 until 7 pm at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will also be held for 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Mpls. The family suggests memorials may go to the Calvary Lutheran Building Fund or the Park Rapids Veterans Memorial. Friends may leave online condolences at ceasefuneralhome.com.
