Jakub Gaca was born about 1782, probably in Kornaty. His parents were likely Franciszek Gaca and Maddalena due to witnesses & godparents at Gaca events (see Research Notes).
He married Katarzyna Krol on 7 September 1813 in Ostrowo Geistlich. They had several children:
He passed away on 13 April 1864 in Kornaty. His death record names his wife Katarzyna and 4 children who survived him: Jozef, Marcin, Jan and Jozefa. He is called “Jakub Gaca alias Krolak,” indicating his wife’s maiden name was an alias.
The evidence for his parents being Franciszek Gaca and Maddalena includes August Gaca being the godfather of his eldest son Jozef. August‘s marriage record identified him clearly as a son of Franciszek and Maddalena. Both Jakub and August were godfathers for children of a Wawrzyniec Gaca, so he appears to be another brother.
Jakubowski Connection: The surname Jakubowski is somehow connected to the Jakub Gaca family, potentially a second surname or it may be linked to his wife. On his death record, his wife is called Katarzyna de Jakubowski. Sometimes having an alias surname like this in Poland had to do with land ownership or the estate. A Walenty Jakubowski of Radlowo was a witness to his marriage with Katarzyna Krol in 1813.
He is confirmed to have several grandchildren who immigrated to the United States, settling in Buffalo, New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
