Biography

Stephen Garrett Gaddis was born on 20 Jan 1823 in Casey County, Kentucky.

In the 1850 census Stephen (age 28) was in Casey County, Kentucky, United States.^[1]

Stephen married second to Talitha (Wesley) Gaddis (1833-1910) on 16 Jan 1851 in Pulaski County, Kentucky.^[2] They would have about nine children together.

In the 1860 census Stephen (age 36) was in Wright, Missouri, United States.^[3]

In the 1870 census Stephen (age 49) was the head of household in Wright, Missouri, United States.^[4]

In the 1880 census Stephen (age 57), Farmer, was the married head of household in Van Buren Township, Wright, Missouri, United States.^[5]

Stephen died on 8 Mar 1894 and was buried in Simmons Cemetery in Wright County, Missouri.^[6]

Research Notes

The identity of Stephen's parents is considered uncertain. Many different dates of births are given for his reported parents, with the 1772 and 1775 dates the latest. Assuming 1775 is accurate, Elizabeth would have been about 47 to 48 years old when Stephen was born. This is not impossible, but seems unlikely. Other researchers cite her DOB as 1769 - which does seem impossible.

Perhaps Stephen's father had an unknown wife after Elizabeth who was the mother of Stephen - or perhaps we simply have the wrong parents.
