Biography
The daughter of Addison Gage (1815-1877) and Sophia Elizabeth Ferguson (1817-1870), Alice was born in Barre Center in 1848.[1][2][3] Her siblings included:
Helen Jeanette Gage (1838-1906)
Hannah Mariah Gage (1840-1903)
William Harrison Gage (1842-1922)
Melissa Malvina Gage (1844-1923)
Taylor Addison Gage (1848-1911)
Alice married John Post, marrying in 1866 and having four children together, including one, James, who died in infancy. They made their home in Hamlin, New York, in Monroe County, where they spent their entire married lives farming. Her husband also had a cooper's shop there.[4][5][6] Her son, Fred, lost his wife in 1896 and Fred and his daughter, Luella, moved back in with John and Alice, working with his father.[7] Fred remarried in 1901 but his daughter, Alice's granddaughter, remained at the farm with them.[8][9][10]
Alice and her husband are believed to have passed away on the same day in 1916. Alice is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Clarendon, New York, in Orleans County.[11]
