Biography

Antoine, son of Bonaventure Gagnon and Marie Françoise Demers, was born 16 Jan 1753 and baptized the same day in the parish of Saint-Nicolas, Canada, Nouvelle-France. The Saint-Nicolas de Lévis parish register identifies him as "Antoine né d'aujourdhuy fils de Vonaventur Gagnon et de Marie Françoise Demers son épouse legitime Le parein a été Antoine Beron La maraine Catherine Grenier."[1]

He married Geneviève Simoneau 2 February 1772. The Saint-Nicolas-de-Lévis parish register states that the marraige was between "Antoine Gagnon fils de Bonaventure Gagnon et de France Demers d'une part et de Geneviève Simoneau fille de Gabrielle Simoneau, et de Josephte Blachet d'autre part. . . . en présence de Presque Gagnon Jean Simoneau Pierre Simoneau et de plusieurs autres."[2]

After he was widowed, he married Marie Cottin, widow of Jean Baptiste Denis Dubois, on 5 August 1805 in the same parish. The Saint-Nicolas-de-Levis register states that the marriage was between "Antoine Gagnon [agricultuer] veuf de Geneviève Simoneau de cette paroisse d'une part et Marie Cottin veuve de Jean baptiste Denis Dubois aussi de cette paroisse d'autre part . . . en présence de Charle Lemay, de Michel Duboi et de Jean Baptiste Denis Dubois et de plusieurs autres parens et amis."[3]

Antoine Gagnon, husband of Marie Cottior and of the age of fifty-six years, died 29 May 1809 and was buried 31 May 1809 in the cemetery of Saint-Nicolas, Bas-Canada. [4]
