Life Story of Andrew Gailey

Andrew Gailey was thirteen years old when his father moved the family from Blount County, Tennessee to Buffalo Valley, Smith County, Tennessee. Smith County was divided by the Tennessee Assembly on November, 1807, and Warren County was formed.

The James Gailey family lived in Warren County after it was formed. The Zachariah, William and Godfrey Isbell families also lived in Warren County during the same period of time. Andrew Gailey married Martha Isbell in 1811 in Warren County, Tennessee.

Their first child, Jeptha Vining Gailey, was born in Warren County, Tennessee in 1812. Their second child, Jabez Isbell Gailey, was born in Warren County, Tennessee in 1813. These two sons were named for Martha's brothers Jeptha and Jabez Isbell. Andrew moved his family south into Madison County, Mississippi Territory, in the latter part of 1813. Madison County later became part of the state of Alabama.

Andrew enlisted for service in the War of 1812. He was a private in the 16th Regiment (Burrus), Mississippi Militia. He served under Andrew Jackson who began his campaign against the Creek Nation from a base of operations located in Huntsville, Madison County, Mississippi Territory. Another private in the 16th Regiment was Jabez Isbell.[1]

Martha (Isbell) Gailey died in Lawrence County, AL between 1830 and 1840. Andrew married Catherine Couch in Lawrence County in 1840. He and Catherine migrated to Rusk County, TX between 1840 and 1850. The children remained in Lawrence County. End Notes: . Between 1785 and 1898, he owned a parcel in a plat of land in Lawrence County in what was then the Mississippi Territory.[2]

Andrew Gailey married Martha Isbell in the year 1811 in Warren County, Tennessee.

Andrew Gailey gave military service in the War of 1812. He entered service as a Private and was mustered out as a Private. He served in the 16th Regiment (Burrus') Mississippi Militia.

Census records for Andrew Gailey: 1820, he was present in Madison County, Mississippi Territory, later Alabama 1830, he was present in Lawrence County, Alabama[6] The Andrew Gailey family. The Jabez Isbell family lived on the adjoining farm. 1840, he was present in Lawrence County, Alabama[7] The Andrew Gailey family. 1850, he was present in Rusk County, Texas [8]

On the 1850 Federal Census Record, Andrew is aged 60 and born in 1790. In the household is Catherine Gailey who is aged 45 and born in Alabama. Andrew Gailey's occupation is given as carpenter. The census record was enumerated 28 October 1850, Catherine Couch Gailey must have died shortly after that date.
