He was buried at Old Saint Stephens Cemetery Washington County, Alabama, his memorial has a detailed biography and links to those of family members.[1]

Died
On the 7th May, at Washington county, Alabama, the Hon. Wm. Dabney Gaines in the 30th year of his age. At the period of his death, Mr. Gaines held the office of presiding Judge of the County Court.
