Biography
When Ralph Gaines was born on March 7, 1797, in Elberton, Georgia, his father, William, was 40 and his mother, Mildred, was 35. He married Elizabeth Martin Turner (1803-) on January 3, 1822, in Elbert, Georgia.[1] They had at least ten children:
- Sara Gaines (1824–1864)
- Milly Banks Gaines (1826–1900)
- Martha Emma Gaines (1828–1912)
- William Martin Gaines (1830–1910)
- Hiram Sanford Gaines (1833–1863)
- James A Gaines (1834–1862)
- Thomas B. Gaines (1836–1912)
- Livingston Jones Gaines (1839–1917)
- Lindsay Gaines (m, 1839–)
- Peter Crumley Gaines (1842–1927)[2]
He died in 1889 in Elbert, Georgia, at the impressive age of 92.[3]
