Birth and Parents

Edward Greenberry Gaither was born on 4 Dec 1741 in Montgomery County, Maryland. He died 22 May 1823 in Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland.[1]

Parents: Edward Gaither (Father was Benjamin) married Eleanor Whittle. (Note: this is debatable) She was deeded 100 acres of "Gaither's Collections" by Edward Gaither (of Edward). [2]

Siblings: Sons of Edward Gaither were all engaged in the Revolution. They were

  1. Lieutenant Greenberry Gaither, quartermaster in Captain Briscoe's Company [2]
  2. Lieutenant Basil Gaither [2]
  3. Ensign Burgess Gaither [2]
  4. Lieutenant Benjamin Gaither, of major Beall's Battalion [2]

These brothers were all legatees of Benjamin Gaither, the bachelor son of Benjamin and Sarah Burgess. [2]

Lieutenant Greenberry Gaither married Miss Anderson, of Rockville, and removed to Kentucky in 1813. [2]

  1. Dr. Edward and and his son Greenberry Gaither. Dr. Edward Gaither was in the War of 1812 and was at the battle of Tippecanoe. His son Greenberry became Attorney-General of Arkansas. [2]
  2. Horace Gaither was an attorney and so was his brother, [2]
  3. James Anderson Gaither was also an attorney [2]
  4. Thomas Gaither was a physician; [2]
  5. Brice Gaither was a merchant; [2]
  6. John R. Gaither was a farmer. [2]
  7. James E. Gaither was an attorney in Louisville, Kentucky. He holds still a memento of his ancestors--an old dinner bell, taken from the church bell of Rockville, upon which he had engraved it's history. [2]

Martin Andreas: b. circa 1725, met Abraham and Anna Elisabeth Vautrin (Wotring), father and daughter, on ship sailing for America. m. circa 1750 in America. (Abraham Vautrin, the 3 branches of the tree that I have been able to find originated in the Alsace/Lorraine area of France/Germany. Two brothers, Abraham and Hans "Samuel" and their first cousin, John Daniel came to America in the 1730's. The name was changed for a variety of reasons and has several different spellings; Vautrin, Wudringer, Wuttering, Woodring, Wotring, Watring, and lots of others. Paulus Vautrin was born abt. 1570 in Pfalz Palatinate, Germany. Most of the Woodrings I have found can eventually be traced back to him.)
