JOHN ANDERSON/ (ALEXANDER) was born Abt. 1784 in Scotland, U.K., and died 1848 in Edwardsburg Twp., Grenville Co., Ontario. He married HELEN GALBREATH 13 Apr 1813 in Upper Canada (Ontario), daughter of JOHN GALBREATH/KELBRETH and ELEANOR JOHNSON. She died 11 Aug 1885 in Shedden, Elgin, Ontario, Canada
Helen made the following DECLARATION at Shedden:I, Helen Anderson of the Village of Shedden, in the Township of Southwold, County of Elgin, Province of Ontario, do solemnly declare: (1) That I am the widow and lawful relict of John Anderson of Edwardsburg Township in the County of Grenville in the Province of Ontario, Farmer. (2) That I was lawfully married to the said John Anderson on the thirteenth day of April A.D. 1813 at the house of my father John Galbraith on the first concession of the said Township of Edwardsburg, by Wm. Frazer, the Colonel of the Regiment to which the said John Anderson then belonged and who was according to the laws of Canada then and there in force duly authorized to solemnize marriages. (3) That the said John Anderson and myself had born to us following natural and lawful children; namely:-- May Anderson, born 9th. August 1814;-- John Anderson, born 29th. April 1816, who died on the 4th day of February 1881;-- Helen Anderson, born 23rd. July 1818, who died the 1st. day November 1859;-- Anne Anderson born on the 3rd. day July A.D. 1821; --Hannah Amanda Anderson, born on the 7th. of September 1822 who died in infancy;-- Margaret Anderson born on the 26th. March 1824; James Anderson born on the 31st. October 1825;-- Mary Anderson, born on the 12th. day of December 1827;-- William Anderson, born on the 12th. day of June 1829, who died in infancy;-- Catherine Anderson born on the 17th. August 1831 who died when two years of age;-- Isabell Anderson born on the 14th. Day of February 1833 who died when one year and 6 months old; Alexander Anderson born on the 28th. February 1835; Daniel Anderson born on 12th. day of Jan. 1837;-- George Anderson born on the 24th. day of April 1839; Jane Anderson, born on 12th. April who died in infancy. (4) That at the time of our marriage my said husband was a soldier in the Regiment of Colonel William Fraser which said Regiment was then stationed in the said County of Grenville. (5) That my said husband died in the year 1844 having then attained the age of 62 years. (6) That my said husband was the son of one Alexander Anderson who resided near the city of Aberdeen in that part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland called Scotland where he was sexton of a church and caretaker of the burying ground -- my said husband had one brother, William Anderson, and several sisters. (7) That my said husband kept up a correspondence with his said father and brother, addressing his letters to them in care of one Mr. James Keith, a merchant of the said city of Aberdeen, and that he sent his father some money the year he was discharged from said Regiment. (8) That my said husband in the year 1816 was discharged from his said Regiment, and .... ... ...... obtained a grant of land from the Government, situated in the town of Perth in the County of Lanark, in the said Province of Ontario. He settled on the land and cleared three acres thereof, put it in crop, built a small house thereon, and then left it and went to reside in the Township of Edwardsburg, aforesaid. In the latter place my said husband settled and lived on certain lands left me by my mother, and resided thereon until his death which occured in the 1844. (9) My said husband worked as a stone mason in or about the year 1840 on the fortifications at the City of Kingston in the said Province of Ontario which was ten being erected under military direction.
And I make this solemn declaration, conscientiously believing the same to be true and by virtue of the Act of Parliament of the Dominion of Canada passed in the thirty-seventh year of Her Majesty's reign, entitled "An Act for the suppression of voluntary and extra-judicial oaths." Declared before me by the above named Helen Anderson, of the village of Shedden, in the County of Elgin and Province of Ontario on the 28th. of June 1884. The Declaration being read in my presence to the said Helen Anderson who seemed perfectly to understand the same and made her mark in my presence. Richard E.
