Emma Charlotte Lydia Gale was born in 1887 in Hackney, Middlesex[1]. She was the daughter of John Gale and Lydia Taylor[2].
In 1909 she married Sidney Leigh in Camberwell, Surrey,[3][4] and they had 5 children: Reginald John (b.1910, d.1962), Sidney Frederick (b.1912), Leonard George (b.1914, d.1944), Lilian May (b.1915, d.1976) and Edward Charles (b.1926).
