Research Notes / Suggested Actions

1) It is Acomb Grange not Akeham, although sometimes written as. (see his Will and Kaner, Jennifer History of Acomb Grange). Probate copy of the will of Francis Gale of Acomb Grange, esq., made 28 Nov 1561 (This record is held by West Yorkshire Archive Service, Leeds):

Bequeathing his soul to God and St. Mary, leaving money to 'my Curat' and the parish clerk, silver to his wife and son, a 15 year lease of his house in York to his 'brother' Sir William Malorie, a lease of land in Catton to his 'brother' Ralph Hall and land and rents in Wilberfoss and Newton to his children... [6]

2) His name was Francis and not Robert Francis. (V unusual to use middle names at this time). [6]

3) Six children are attributed to Francis on this profile. Archer says 4; This needs verifying as to which list is accurate: [7]

  1. George, b. c. 1553, d. young and was buried at Old Rufforth.
  2. George, b. c. 1554, d. young and was buried at Old Rufforth.
  3. Robert Gale (abt.1554-)
  4. Mary, b. c. 1558/59, m. c. 1579, James Thwaite of Marston and had issue: 1 son and 3 daus.

4) Christening date appears to be an error? should be in 1520s...
