Maude Walker, 86, Taken by Death in Butte
Mrs. Maude Walker, widow of earlyday Butte lawyer Thomas J. Walker, died Sunday in a local hospital.
Mrs. Walker resided at 58 W. Quartz. She was 66.
Her husband served as a member of the United States Customs Court of New York City until his death in January 1945. He was appointed to the position by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1940. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Walker had served as Silver Bow County Attorney and also was a member of the Montana State Senate for 12 years.
Her husband's brother, Frank C. Walker, was postmaster general under Roosevelt. Mrs. Walker's brother, the late Albert J. Galen, was a former attorney general and Supreme Court justice in Montana.
Mrs. Walker was born Feb. 25, 1878, in Willow Springs. She was educated in Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York City and Convent of the Sacred Heart in Washington, D.C. She also studied music in Germany before marrying Mr. Walker in 1905.
She had lived in Butte since the death of her husband. Mrs. Walker was a member of St Patrick Church.
The only survivors are nieces and nephews in California, Minnesota and Arizona.
