Biography

Ruby was born in 1885. She was the daughter of Richard Gallagher and Helen Horsburgh.^[1] She lived with her parents and siblings in Barton, Wentworth South, Ontario in 1891^[2] and in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario in 1901.^[3]

Ruby married Wilfred VanNorman Oaten on 29 Jun 1910 in Hamilton.^[4] They lived in Halton, Ontario in 1911.^[5] They moved to Calgary, Alberta, where they lived with their daughter, Helen, in 1916.^[6]

After the death of Wilfred in 1920, Ruby and Helen returned to Ontario and lived with Ruby’s mother in Hamilton in 1921.^[7]

Research

There was some confusion caused by the transcription of the 1901 census the name Bubey crops up. if looked at closely the B is an R so Rubey. Again the census takers spelling is not good. Ruby is the correct name and the gender is female.
