James had 2 marriages. His first to Isabella ...... who died in 1865. A year after her death he married Maria McCloskie aged about 21-22 at the Ramelton Meeting House. James occupation was noted as Merchant and Maria as Teacher. Joseph L Scott and Isabella Pinkerton were witnesses to their marriage.
James Gallaher, his wife Anna Maria Hardy, and children; David, Joseph Campbell, Maria (Molly), Oswald, Thomas and William emigrated from Ireland to Katikati, New Zealand in 1878.
James was to known to have fathered fourteen children in his 2 marriages.
His property in Katikati was named "Sunny Side" [1]
Maria passed away in 1887 aged 42-43.
James Gallaher died at his home, George Street, Ponsonby aged 82 and is buried at Waikumete Cemetery & Crematorium, Glen Eden, Auckland.
