Biography

Laurent Gallant was born on 25 Jul 1827 and baptized the next day in Cocagne, New Brunswick, the son of Firmin Gallant and Marguerite Bourque.^[1][2]

Laurent married Henriette Robichaud on 2 Feb 1847 in Bouctouche.^[3][4] Witnesses were Louis Doiron and Joseph Girouard.

In the 1861 census Lorong (sic, age 34 years) lived in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.^[5]

He died on 28 Jan 1862 and was buried two days later in Grande-Digue.^[6][7] His age noted in the parish register was 35 years, the husband of Henriette Robichaud.

Research Notes

Laurent's parents were not named in his marriage record. The 1861 census and his burial record indicate he was born about 1827. The only Laurent Gallant baptism around this date was Laurent Gallant born 25 Jul 1827 in Cocagne, the son of Firmin Gallant and Marguerite Bourque.

The godparents named in the baptism records of Laurent's children were:

• Isaac Robichaud and Olive Robichaud
• Pacifique Arseneau and Domitille Gallant (his sister)
• Romain Caissie and Cecile Gallant (his sister)

When Laurent's daughter Marie Blanche Gallant married Maxime Gallant, a dispensation was granted for 3 to 4 degrees of consanguinity (they were second cousins once removed). Placing Laurent as the child of Firmin Gallant would match this record, because that would make Marie Blanche and Maxime second cousins once removed through François Sylvestre Haché and Marie Poirier.
