Biography

Almost nothing is known about Jane (_______) Palfrey, wife of George Willis.

Torrey's New England marriages provides a clue: "WILLIS, George (1602-) & 2/wf? Jane(____) [PALFREY], wid; by 1637?; Cambridge [1]

Records from the first Church of Cambridge show that Jane had a son by Unknown Palfrey before her marriage to George about 1636 based on the birth of son Thomas in 1638[2]

"George Willowes & Jane his wife both in f. Comm.
His children
Thomas \
Stephen / born and baptized in this church
also
John Palfrey Son of Jane aforenamed, admitted into full Comm. with us Decemb. 10. 1658
His child
Rebekah baptized Septemb. 17, 1665
John baptized April. 14. 1667. deceased
Elizabeth Palfrey baptized May. 24, 1668"

Jane certainly died before 1690, since George remarried before his death in 1690, when wife Sarah was named as wife in his will.[3]

Children:

  1. John Palfrey, son of Jane by Unknown Palfrey
  2. Thomas Willis, s. of George and Jane b. 28 Dec 1638[4]
  3. Stephen Willis, c. of George and Jane b. 14 Oct 1644[4]

Family Search (ID LB8B-S6R) has as Palfrey's wife name at birth as Jane Gallem, born 1604 at Straford on Avon and then died 1646 in Cambridge, Mass Bay. Married Palfrey 1630 and he died 1637 so then she married George Willis. It looks as if Jane died at or soon after birth of their last (Willis) child in 1646. George then married a Sarah Willis this apparently from his will
