Biography

John was a soldier in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, in the 60th NC Infantry Regiment, Co. D, Henderson Rangers. He was injured at the Battle of Rocky Face Ridge and captured at the Battle of Resaca, both during the Atlanta Campaign and had been a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas in Chicago before his release in June 1865.

He is buried at Fanning Chapel Methodist Cemetery in Mills River, Henderson County, North Carolina.
