Biography

Florence Galliers (sometimes recorded as Galliears) was born on March 5, 1872 in Ludlow, Shropshire, and baptized in Downton, Hereford, England on the 30th.[1] (Downton in Herefordshire is about 8.5 miles from Ludlow in Shropshire.) She was a daughter of Edwin Galliers (1834-1900) and Elizabeth (Taylor) Galliers (1836-1905).

She migrated to Canada with her family in 1873. Florence and George Alfred Hill (1871-1919) were married at Euclid Avenue Methodist Church in Toronto on July 18, 1894.[2] Their only child, Lawrence Hill, was born the following year.[3] The family lived in Toronto.[4]

Following George's premature death in 1919, Florence took a second husband, Alexander Ross (1862-1948). From at least 1935 onward, they resided in Lake Worth, Palm Beach County, Florida.[5][6][7] Florence died on Sept. 14, 1948 in a West Palm Beach hospital.[8] She is buried with her parents in Toronto's Mount Pleasant Cemetery.[9]
