Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1925, a daughter of Charlie Lee Gallimore and Nina Leona Nance. She passed away in 2006 and is buried in Salem Moravian God's Acre, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.[1][2][3]

She married Herbert Lee Speas Jr. on 24 Jun 1944 in Norfolk,, Virginia, while he was serving in the US Army Air Corps.[6] They had three children together.

Her obituary was printed in the Winston-Salem Journal on 25 Nov 2006:

Anne Elizabeth Gallimore Speas passed peacefully away at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006. She was born July 29, 1925, to Charley and Nina Nance Gallimore in Concord, N.C. She was married for 62 years to Herbert L. Speas Jr., retired Vice President of Engineering at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Lloyd Gallimore and Clarence Lee Gallimore; and a daughter, Gerry Lee Speas.
Surviving are her husband of the home; a son, Randall Terry Speas of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Cindy Anne Speas Dunn and husband, Gary, of Advance; a grandson, Christian Anthony Speas and wife, Michelle, of Advance; two great-grandsons, Davis Merritt Speas and John Mitchell Speas. She leaves a sister, Evelyn Gallimore Edwards of Chesterfield, Va., and a brother, Charlie "Hurley" and wife, Louise, of Archdale.
A lifelong member of Messiah Moravian Church, she served on numerous circle groups. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother and a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She was a proficient homemaker and avid cook. She was known for her endless generosity and kindness to so many people during her life, always helping people in need. She was a sharp dresser with a great sense of style and good taste in whatever she purchased for people.
Our heartfelt thanks to her dear close friends, Ruth Davis, Cecil Price and Anna Mae Gillette, who shared with her so many good times and brought her so much joy. A special thank-you to Brenda Mendenhall for her loving relationship and support. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, at Messiah Moravian Church, 1401 S. Peace Haven Road Winston-Salem, NC 27104, followed by interment in God's Acre at Old Salem in downtown Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, 336-768-3971. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road in charge of arrangements.
