That Thomas Mayhew's second wife, Jane, was widow of Thomas Paine/Payne, is supported by an entry in the 1639 notebook of Thomas Lechford, dated 8 Sep 1639:
Charles Bank's History of Martha's Vineyard notes the tradition that Jane's maiden name was Gallion (and also notes that the name Gallyon (Gallion) was very uncommon in England and may be Scotch).[2]
The International Genealogical Index reveals a marriage between Thomas Paine and Jane Galland at Wantage, Berkshire, 15 Oct 1620. Review of parish registers in Wantage reveals relationships that support the theory that Jane was the daughter of Edward Galland.[3]
Jane Galland was baptized at Wantage, Berkshire, on 2 Nov 1602, dau of Edward Galland and Agnes Wilmot.[3]
Jane married (1) at Wantage, Berkshire, 15 Oct 1620 Thomas Payne, probably a London merchant, who predeceased her. Thomas died by 1632 when Jane arrived in New England with her second husband. [3]
She married (2) Thomas Mayhew by whom she had three daughters,
She is said to have returned to England to fight a court case for a large sum of money for her Payne children (plural?).[citation needed]
She was living as late as 1666 in Edgartown, Dukes, Mass., but died before her husband Thomas Mayhew who died at Martha's Vineyard 25 March 1682.[3]
Burial in Tisbury Village Cemetery, Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts
There is no evidence that Thomas Payne and Jane Galland had a daughter named Jane who married her step-brother Thomas Mayhew, Jr.[4]

Thomas Paine is the husband of Jane Galland/Gallion and has appropriately been set to merge with Paine-170
Gallion-53 and Galland-126 are the same person and have been set to merge.
Jane Unknown was the wife of the second Thomas Mayhew, not the first.
There is no profile for Thomas Paine Jr. (1632-1657). No wife or child is known for him according to his bio in Bank's History of Martha's Vineyard.
The book mentions February 8 1632 Birthdate of Thomas Paine . mentions Thomas was 20 in 1652. The "Martha's Vineyard, annuals" book mentioned John Wakefield witnessed guardianship documentation in 1652 for Thomas Paine, and by 1657 Thomas Paine purchased and was regranted John Wakefield's possessions. My theory b-4 research is: John Wakefield had a close relationship with Thomas Paine. John & brother Thomas Wakefield left England, John went to Massachusetts but research says Thomas Wakefield went to Virginia. If Thomas Paine died in VA
Thomas Paine is probably the best person to start with. The three profiles give very different dates, and one of them has him dying in Virginia - definitely not our Thomas Paine.
I've decided to remove myself as a manager of some of these profiles because I'm already managing too many profiles and need to cut down.
On WikiTree the profiles are a major mess.. I think Thomas Paine-1278 and Thomas Paine-1258 and Paine 170 are the same person and Jane Gillion-53 and Jane unknown- 256165 and Galland-126 are the same person
Jane Galland- 126 is already GPM..
Thank you
