He was in Company I (13th Cavalry, Dibrell's Regiment) on 15 Sep 1862 in Sparta, Bledsoe Co. (neighboring to Van Buren Co.). in the CSA information from document from Fold3 but he was discharged for health reasons and also he did not have a horse , was denied pension because he signed a loyalty agreement with the United States as told to me by one of my mother's sisters[3]

In 1870, he was living in Van Buren county, Tennessee, USA with his wife, Mary, his children, John and William[4]

In 1880, he was living in Van Buren county, Tennessee, USA with his wife, Mary, children, John, William, George, Isaac, Eva, Charles, Joseph, also there were 2 boarders, Eliza Dodson, and John Dodson, James was listed as a Farmer in the 1880 census,[5]

In 1900, he was living in Walling, White county, Tennessee, USA with his wife, Mary, children, Eva, Charles, Joseph, Franklin, Daisy, Robert, Orville, James is listed as a Farmer in the 1900 census[6]

He died on July 20, 1905 in White County, Tennessee, USA[7]
