He was born on October 13th 1756 in the Bahamas. He married Luisa Mathew. He was the Governor of Newfoundland 1802-1804. He commanded the British fleet at Copenhagen in 1807, he was created Baron Gambier in 1807. He became Admiral of the Fleet in 1830. He died on April 19th 1833 at Iver, Buckinghamshire.
