Biography

James was born in 1860. [1]

Immigration Emigrated from County Down, Ireland and departed from London in 1874 aged 30 to Canterbury, New Zealand on the ship Waimate, arriving on 25 January 1875. Listed on ship passenger list as a farm labourer. This may not be the same James Gamble? Email from Pattinson-291 indicates that this immigration record may be incorrect. He states that James Gamble was born in Limerick in 1860 but did not provide any references to corroborate this information.

  • 1882 Farmer at Mauku, Franklin, Auckland, New Zealand.
  • 1883 Employment listed as labourer on daughter Mary Jane Gamble's birth certificate registration no: 1883/10257.
  • 23 June 1911 Timber Contractor at Otiria, Northland, New Zealand.[2]
  • Noted as a general labourer on daughter Mary Jane Gamble's death certificate.[3]

Marriage On 25 August 1882 Susannah McGrath and James Gamble were married at Mauku, Franklin, Auckland, New Zealand. [4]

James died on 1 August 1927 and was buried at Kaihu Cemetery, Kaihu, Kaipara District, Northland, New Zealand [5]
