William was born about 1750. He is the son of William Gammell.
Military
On 13 August 1832, William Gammell of Hillsborough aged eighty-two years made application for a pension based on his service in the Revolution. In April 1775 while residing in Concord, Massachusetts he enlisted for eight months in the company of Capt. Abisha Brown in Col. John Nixon’s regiment. He was stationed at Cambridge until after the Battle of Bunker Hill, which battle he was in, and was in the Battle of Concord. He was stationed the remainder of the time at Prospect Hill and Winter Hill. In August 1776, he enlisted from Concord for a term of four months under Capt. Zaccheus Fitch in Col. Brown’s regiment. They marched through Bennington and Skenesborough to Mount Hope between Lake Champlain and Lake George. From there, they marched to Saratoga. He reported he was born in Boston in 1750. He has lived in Hillsborough for the past fifty-five years. William was credited with twelve months service and awarded a pension.[1]
