Biography

Joshua Gammon (38) appears on the 1881 census with wife Mary E (35) and their children; George (14), William (13), Alice (9), Asa (11), Eliza (6), Charles (5), and Wellington (3).[1]

Joshua Gammon (47) appears on the 1891 census with wife Mary (45) and their children; William (22), Asa Stanley (20), Alice (19), Elizabeth Jane (17), Charles (14), Wellington (12), Lucy (9), Edith M (6), and Clarence (3). [2]

It seems Arthur Bezanson died very shortly after marrying Eliza Gammon in 1903[3].. Bezansons of Nova Scotia states before 1906. Eliza's parents are listed as Joshua and Mary.[4]

Eliza Gammon later married John A McPherson[5] and they can be found on the 1911 census together with adopted son whose last name is Gammon, first name is hard to make out on the census record, almost looks like "Flower"[6] From anecdotal evidence provided by a grand-daughter we know this to be Raymond Harold Gammon who was an illegitimate son of Edith Gammon, Eliza's sister.

Email from Lisa, Raymond's Grand daughter

Hello, I came across an entry with great interest on your page for Eliza Jane Bezanson nee Gammon. I believe she is my Grandfather’s Aunt who actually raised him. My research shows she is daughter of John Joshua Gammon (1850-1919) and Mary Elizabeth Myers (1846-1913). One of her siblings was Edith May Gammon (1884-1955), who was my great grandmother. Eliza married a Arthur Bezanson in 1903, who records show died in 1903 as well. My research also shows she remarried a John McPherson on 1906. All this occurring in Nova Scotia Canada. I know at some point in her life Eliza Jane went blind. My grandfather always said she looked up in the sky one day at an aircraft and then could not see anymore(?). All I know is she took him in and treated him as a son, he loved her dearly.[7]
