Alice was christened on 30 October 1864 at the United Methodist Circuit, in Newport on the Isle of Wight.
In 1871 Alice, aged 6, was living in Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight, along with her parents Thomas and Ann, and her siblings Louisa age 14, William age 11 and Emily age 2. Her father Thomas worked as an agricultural laborer.
In 1881 Alice, who would have been about 16, was not living with her parents in Carisbrooke during the census.
Alice married Alfred Smith, son of Henry Smith, on 8 September 1885 in Carisbrooke, Hampshire, England. Alice was 21 years old, while Alfred was 29. It was the first marriage for both of them.
In 1891 Alice and Alfred, a tailor, were living in Newport on the Isle of Wight with their sons Alfred, 4, William, 2, and infant daughter Irene. Alfred's sister Emily, a tailoress, was also staying with them.
In 1901 Alice and her husband Alfred were living in Newport on the Isle of Wight along with their four children. Alfred was 14, William was 12, Alice was 8 and Baden was an infant. Alfred was a tailor, along with son Alfred, and Alice was at home with the children.
Alice's became a widow in 1902 when Alfred died aged 46.
The birth record has her last name spelt as Ganway, but other records have it as Ganaway.
I have been unable to find Alice in the 1881 census, perhaps she went into service or was living on the main land.
I have been unable to find Alice on the 1911 census also.
